Weight Loss Surgery Education Symposiums & Support Groups

Leading up to weight loss following gastric bypass surgery, patients must endure a rigorous recovery period and become accustomed to their new way of life. Weight loss surgery patients are expected to make changes to their eating and exercise habits and these life changes can be difficult. Weight loss surgery in Arcadia is a serious operation, so our bariatric surgery practice offers support groups to help our patients through the treatment.

California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates offers monthly Symposiums on Bariatric Surgery on the third Wednesday of each month as well as specific Saturdays. Weight loss surgery support groups for our patients are offered every first, third and fourth Monday of each month.

Third Wednesday Symposium:
On the third Wednesday of each month, a weight loss surgery symposium is held at the Methodist Hospital, Lewis Hall, 300 West Huntington Drive Arcadia, California. The symposium takes place between 7:00pm-9:00pm. We also offer a Tuesday Symposium only on the following dates: March 18, May 20, September 16

New! Saturday Symposium:
On specific Saturdays each month (check calendar below), a weight loss surgery symposium is held at the Methodist Hospital, Lewis Hall, 300 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California. The group meets between 12:30pm–2:30pm.

Support Groups
Weight loss surgery support groups for our patients are offered every first, third and fourth Monday.

Weight loss surgery support groups meet at:

Methodist Hospital, Lewis Hall, 300 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, California. The group meets on the first, third and fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Bariatric Support Group was formed in order to help with some of the problems patients face as they lose weight.  Some of the problems may be dietary, cosmetic and social.  Please join us for an informative discussion on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Monday of every month.  The groups meet in Lewis Hall at Methodist Hospital from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

When:	Every 1st, 3rd, and Starting January 2008, every 4th Monday Of each month, from 7:30pm-8:30pm

New Support Group format began January 2008

We are excited to offer a new format for our support groups in 2008! We feel this new format will allow patients to address their post-operative needs during their weight loss journey.

• The first Monday of every month we will meet with patients who are 0-12 months out from surgery. The facilitators will be Lorrie and Kevin Rice, LCSW.
• The third Monday of every month (second group) will be people more than 12 months out from surgery. The facilitator will be Deb Murphy, PhD.
• The fourth Monday of every month (third group) will be dedicated to our LAP-BAND patients. Facilitators will be Lorrie our dietitian and Mary Baron, LCSW.

Meetings are designed to promote discussion among members.  Lectures about nutrition, exercise and plastic surgery will be incorporated several times per year.  We look forward to seeing you there!
