Experience counts when it comes to complex bariatric surgery. With more than 1,000 laparoscopic, roux-y gastric bypasses completed, our surgeons at California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates have performed the most bariatric procedures in the Los Angeles area. Our bariatric treatment center serves the Los Angeles and Orange County area.

Making the Choice for Better Health

Between five and ten million Americans suffer from obesity, placing their health at serious risk from debilitating diseases. Diets and exercise have only a limited ability to provide long-term weight loss. Gastric bypass surgery for obesity at our bariatric treatment center is one of the few method that has resulted in long-term maintenance of weight loss, as well as a dramatic reduction in the associated diseases.

Testimonial

Bariatric Surgery at Our Los Angeles Area Center: Before and After PhotosI'm writing this on January 20, 2005--three months to the day since I had my surgery. At my last weigh-in, I was down 228 pounds. That was in the middle of December. I started at over 600 pounds. My results have been remarkable and I've been very fortunate in my recovery. I had only one bad period when for about three weeks I was fatigued and dizzy. It did go away, though, and the sailing since has been very smooth. Since I began eating solid food I haven't even come close to getting sick--or "dumping" as the medical terminology goes--although I did eat half-a-hot dog that did NOT agree with me. But that's the only thing I've found that I can't eat. I haven't tried much with sugar yet--some jello mold at Christmas has been it--but I had no reaction at all. And I think the key to all of my success is following the doctor's orders TO THE LETTER. The surgery, as the doctor will tell you, is only the beginning. It's just a tool to help you with your weight loss. If you want to have success, you HAVE TO modify your eating habits. It's the only way to get the most out of the surgery. Prior to the operation, I was a sweet-aholic, loved fried foods and loved bread. Since the surgery, I've eaten no sugar to speak of, no fried foods and about two pieces of bread--total. It hasn't been easy, but it's necessary. Otherwise, you'll have had the surgery for nothing. But the good news is, with a smaller stomach, you won't want to overeat, because if you do, you'll get very uncomfortable. I've had that happen a few times, and it reminds me not to do it again. And if you have the bad reactions to some foods (which as I mentioned above I've avoided those reactions) you won't want to eat them again. It will be a LONG time before I try another hot dog--if ever. And that's the beauty of this surgery--it's puts a governor on your eating habits. If you let it, you new "pouch" will help you change your eating lifestyle, and you'll be able to hit your goal, whatever that may be.

As far as the doctors go, I can't imagine any better than the one's at California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates. My surgeon was Dr. LaMar, who made sure I was prepared mentally as well as physically for the surgery. If I asked a tough question, he pulled no punches. He laid it out there when I asked about my chances of making it through the surgery. He told me that every time somebody as heavy as I was goes under for surgery, there's a chance that they won't wake up. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but it was the truth. And he assured me that they'd have the best people possible working on the surgical team to make sure I did make it through OK. And as you can see, I did fine! Dr. Pehrsson was also part of the team that took care of me during and after the surgery, and they were also outstanding.

If you decide to have gastric bypass surgery, I highly recommend that you choose California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates. My experience has been fantastic--pre-op, op and post-op. Yes, the doctors, nurses and staff still take an interest AFTER the surgery. And it was very comforting to know that If I had a question about ANYTHING during my recovery, they were there to answer it. If your ready for it, take the step. And if you follow the California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates program, you'll never regret it.
